Kaviyoor Mahadeva Temple



One of the ancient Mahadev (Lord Shiva) temples in the state of Kerala, Kaviyoor Mahadeva temple was built in the 10th century which is identified for its exclusive gable architectural style. Lord Mahadev and Goddess Parvati are the main deity in the temple.

Kaviyoor Mahadeva Temple is one of the most ancient Mahadeva temples in Kerala. Located at the village of Kaviyoor (one of the ancient 64 Brahmin settlements of Kerala), in Pathanamthitta District, the main deity of this temple is Lord Shiva. Lord Vishnu is also worshipped here. It is one of the popular temples, under Thiruvalla Group of Temples. The temple is commonly known as Thrikkaviyoor Mahadeva Temple. The shrine is also known as Hanuman Temple and Sriparvati Temple.The main offering to the presiding deity at Kaviyoor Mahadevar Temple is Aval Nadyam and Vada Mala, which can be offered after making a receipt from the counter. The day-to-day activities of the temple include a number of rituals performed to please the presiding deity. The temple also conducts Hanuman Jayanti, which is a ceremonious occasion celebrated to commemorate the birthday of Lord Hanuman.

Festivals:
1.Thiruvutsavam (December - Janruary) every year starts "Thiruvaathira" in Dhanu masa and ends on 10th day by Araattu Ezhunnellippu.

'Utsavabali','Seva','Pallivetta' are the main functions during Thiruvutsavam.

2.Sivaratri-February/March->Vilakkezhunnellippu(lighting of 8000 Diyas of temple by devotees of 8 Kara's(Desam).

3. Sahasra Kalasam(Abhishekam with 100 pots consisting 1 gold pot,10 silver pot and remaining copper pots during 10 days.

How to Reach

Taxi : There are two type of taxi services are available, regular and call taxis.Taxi service is available from the airport and railway station to reach these placepathanamthitta.
Regular taxis are normally available at designated taxi stands located at places such as railway stations, the airport, boat jetties, major bus stations and in front of important hotels.
Call taxis have charges fixed by their respective companies (although they are normally uniform).

BUS : Pathanamthitta is located strategically near two highways and for this reason, road travel is very easy. Frequent buses are available from Pathanamthitta to all places including Chennai, Coimbatore, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram and other nearby areas.

Train : The temple is located 5 km away from Thirula Railway station that connects it to important cities of Kerala.



Air : The temple is located at Kaviyoor, which is at the equal distance from two major airports of Kerala – Trivandrum International Airport and Cochin International Airport.
