Valiyaparamba is situated 15km north of Payyanur and 3km from Ayitti Jetty. It is fed by four rivers and dotted with numerous little islands, Valiyaparamba is fast turning into a much favoured backwater resort that offers enchanting boat cruises. A formation of a group of 9 islands in Tejeswini River has been given the name of Valiyaparamba islands. It can be called the most mesmerizing backwater stretch on the Kavvayi Backwaters near Payyanur. Been blessed with natural beauty in abundance, this island is accessible through a boat service or by crossing the Mavila Kadappuram Bridge. Spread in an area of 16 square km, Valiyaparamba Island is the largest of the various islands placed in northern part of the Kavvayi Backwaters, about 50 km northwards of Kannur. Westward of the backwaters lies the pristine Valiyaparamba beach.

Valiyaparamba Island is known for the cultivation of mussel. The place is also quite popular as a fishing centre. Kappil,Bekal and Pallikere are some of the nearby beaches that are just perfect to enjoy an amazing sunset and spend some relaxing moments or simply organize a family picnic.
A beautiful rural area,Padanna is quite popular for its mussel farming in the southern part of the Kasargod district. Oyster Opera, an amazing theme-village, a relatively new one, is a popular attraction here.
